- 2 mm – 2 mm across at the link, light for a bracelet - about as thick as a U.S. nickel, which is 1.95 mm thick.
- 2.25 mm – a bracelet of 2.25 mm - light, and a little thicker than a U.S. nickel laid flat (1.95 mm).
- 2.5 mm – light: the links run 2.5 mm across, roughly 2 stacked pennies deep, a penny being 1.52 mm.
- 3 mm – 3 mm across at the link, medium for a bracelet - about as thick as 2 pennies stacked (a penny is 1.52 mm).
- 3.5 mm – 3.5 mm across - a medium gauge, roughly 2 stacked pennies deep, a penny being 1.52 mm.
- 4 mm – 4 mm across at the link, substantial for a bracelet - about the thickness of 3 pennies together (1.52 mm each).
- 4.9 mm – 4.9 mm across at the link, substantial for a bracelet - about the thickness of 3 pennies together (1.52 mm each).
- 5.5 mm – 5.5 mm across - a substantial gauge, about the thickness of 4 pennies together (1.52 mm each).
- 6.5 mm – a heavy bracelet at 6.5 mm across - about the thickness of 4 pennies together (1.52 mm each).
- 8 mm – heavy: the links run 8 mm across, about the thickness of 5 pennies together (1.52 mm each).
The usual bracelet lengths run 6.5 in a petite wrist, 7 in small, 7.5 in the average woman, 8 in the average man, 8.5 in large, 9 in extra large. Wrap a strip of paper round your wrist, mark it and measure it flat, then add about half an inch: a bracelet the same size as your wrist will not move.
