- 1 mm – a chain of 1 mm - fine, and a little under the thickness of a U.S. dime (1.35 mm). Takes a pendant bail of about 1.4 mm or wider.
- 1.15 mm – fine: the links run 1.15 mm across, a little under the thickness of a U.S. dime (1.35 mm). Takes a pendant bail of about 1.5 mm or wider.
- 1.3 mm – a fine chain at 1.3 mm across - about as thick as a U.S. dime, which is 1.35 mm thick. Takes a pendant bail of about 1.7 mm or wider.
- 1.5 mm – fine: the links run 1.5 mm across, about the thickness of a U.S. penny (1.52 mm). Takes a pendant bail of about 1.9 mm or wider.
- 1.6 mm – 1.6 mm across - a fine gauge, about as thick as a U.S. penny, which is 1.52 mm thick. Takes a pendant bail of about 2 mm or wider.
- 1.8 mm – a necklace of 1.8 mm - light, and about as thick as a U.S. quarter, which is 1.75 mm thick. Takes a pendant bail of about 2.2 mm or wider.
